Our research

We work at the interface between hydrometeorology and data science. Our target is to develop new methods to provide improved high-resolution weather information, especially on precipitation.

Precipitation shows great spatial and temporal variability. This is what makes measurements and predictions so difficult. However, these measurements and predictions are crucial for understanding the water cycle and warning of extreme events.

For our research we mainly use:

  • large remote sensing datasets
  • novel opportunistic sensors
  • Weather model outputs and
  • Machine learning methods

We are focusing in particular on regions with sparse traditional observation networks in the Global South to enable better warnings and decisions there.
